Houghton High School’s Class of 2012 was recognized Thursday evening for its academic and athletic accomplishments. Among the honors awarded were the Herman Gundlach Family Memorial Award, presented to Adeline Grier-Welch, left, who was named the top female senior athlete in the class. Grier-Welch lettered four times in cross country, three times in basketball and four times in track and field, where she currently holds U.P. Finals records in both the high jump and long jump. The Einer F. Anderson Award, indicative of HHS’s best senior male athlete, was given to Heath Johnson. Johnson lettered twice in varsity football, three times in hockey and four times in track and field. The pair are pictured where the awards are now permanently displayed outside the new Houghton High?School gym. (DMG photo by Brandon Veale)
