Promoting Keweenaw County

Vendors wanted for outdoor writers meeting

COPPER HARBOR - Dan Harri thinks the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is a great place to promote Keweenaw County, and that's what will be happening starting Friday when the Michigan Outdoor Writers Association meets at the facility for three days.

Harri, general manager of the KML, said he won the bid for the MOWA meeting and he thought it would be a good opportunity for local businesses to talk to the writers about what they have to offer.

"I suggested we do a wilderness expo," he said.

The event was planned with local outdoor writer Jim Junttila, Harri said.

Harri said as of Wednesday, 21 local businesses had signed up to attend the event. Also attending will be representatives from Fort Wilkins State Park, Keweenaw National Historical Park, the Copper Harbor Improvement Association, the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce and the Keweenaw County Historical Society.

"It's going to be a great event," he said. "It's never been done before."

Harri said about 30 writers from Detroit to Duluth and much of the Midwest will be attending the event, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the KML ballroom. After 8 p.m., musician Jan Arnold will entertain.

There is no cost for businesses wishing to attend, and Harri said there is room for about 50. To take part, businesses owners and managers should call the KML at 289-4403.

"The more, the merrier," he said.
