HOUGHTON - Lakes Dairyland swept both games of its senior (age 16-18) softball doubleheader Monday, defeating Calumet Lions 16-8 and Kevin's Self Storage 23-22.
In the first game, Dairyland outscored the Lions 8-1 in the first inning but let Calumet back into the game with a series of second-inning walks before closing the door with six second-inning runs and two more in the third. Kyleigh Audette, Sarah Audette and Mandy Perreault all singled twice for the winners, while Erin Gast kicked in a triple. Clara Loukus had two hits for the Lions.
Dairyland trailed 14-7 midway through game two before tying it up at 22 going into the final inning. Sarah Audette held Kevin's Self Storage scoreless in the top of the inning, and Dairyland pushed the winning run across when Morgan Gast drew a two-out walk, stole second and took the last two bases on passed balls. Morgan Gast had three hits in the game, while Erin Gast, Kyleigh Audette and Julia Henderson recorded two apiece. Olivia Rouleau and Audrey Knuuttila had three hits apiece for Kevin's.
In Junior (13-15) softball, Pat's Foods dropped Lake Linden 13-9 as Lisa Keskimaki and Colleen Toorongian combined for 10 strikeouts. Aubrey Zackel and Cora Rajala had RBI singles for the winners, while Keskimaki had an RBI double.
In Junior baseball, Alan Jurmu threw a complete-game four hitter for The Library in a 4-2 win over Baraga. He struck out eight over the seven innings. Cole Jepsen led all hitters with a pair for The Library.
Back-to-back triples from Brendan Middleton and Steve Dudenas to lead off the bottom of the sixth keyed Middleton Home Builders' rally past Lassila Insurance 4-3 in Keweenaw Little League Major (11-12) baseball at Village Park in Lake Linden.
Matt Ojala had given Lassila the 3-2 lead when he scored in the top of the fifth.
Cayman Kraniak put up three hits for Lassila, while Dudenas, the winning pitcher, also had a two-hit night.
Saturday, Middleton defeated Aspirus Keweenaw 7-2 in interleague play, scoring four times in the fourth to break it open. Connor Baccus and Middleton combined on the win.
In Portage Lake Little League Minor (9-10) play, Calumet Elks scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 14-13 come-from-behind victory.
PJ Donnelly posted three hits with Tyler Romps and Dayton Moyle adding two apiece. Romps was the winning pitcher and Donnelly drew the save. Eli Larson and Ethan Jarvela posted three hits apiece for Kissel.
Auto Pro Glass and Tire dropped Tervo Agency 15-4 behind a 3-for-3 night with four RBIs from Jackson Rocchi. Rocchi also had an inside-the-park home run.
J. Peltier Construction took down Thrivent Financial 19-5 with five runs in the first inning, five in the third and four in the sixth.
Thomas Bump and Colin Cowell had three-hit games, while Davin Hill, Mason Mikesch and Malakai Sherwood put up two apiece. Bump, Cowell, Jiseung Choi, Hill and Chad Nordstrom combined on a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts and seven walks.
