To the editor:
KeweenawCAN!, the local career and college access network serving Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw counties would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all those individuals, businesses, and organizations who partook in the Touch the Future Event.
On May 10, 503 eighth-grade students from 10 different local schools were given the opportunity to explore potential options of careers, pathways through education, and local programs to find success in reaching their dreams. Even in such a turbulent economy, 41 businesses, institutions, and organizations were represented by more than 50 community volunteers to make the 20th annual Touch the Future Event presented by the Copper Country Intermediate School District, hosted by the Houghton Middle School, and sponsored by KeweenawCAN! a real success. These volunteers, organizations and businesses understand students are the future of our area, state and country and support the efforts of many to ensure the pathways for our future are open to those who will be working and living in it. Thank you also to the volunteers who spent numerous hours organizing a top-notch event that will undoubtedly open the eyes of local youth to the possibilities right here in their backyard.
