Turner tosses two-hitter for Sayen’s Auto

HOUGHTON - Carson Turner threw a two-hitter as Sayen's Auto defeated Kevin's Self Storage 10-2 in Portage Lake Little League Major (11-12) play Thursday.

He struck out 12 and walked two in the complete game.

Sayen's broke the game open with a seven-run third inning, which started with a base hit from Ashley Ruotsala. Ruotsala batted again in the inning, delivering a bases-clearing double. She, Kevin Bostwick and Evan Larson had two hits apiece for the winners.

The Library defeated Aspirus Keweenaw 5-1 at Hancock Driving Park with help from a pair of two-RBI doubles by Tyler Cleary.

Pitchers Pat Cortright (Library) and Jaden Janke (Aspirus) kept the game hitless through three innings, but Michael Johnson led off the fourth with a single for The Library, which was followed by a walk and Cleary's first double. Jonathan Baker drove Cleary in with an RBI single for a 3-0 lead.

Cleary doubled in Carter Nettell and Cortright again in the fifth.

Aspirus got on the board in the sixth after Brody Budweg reached on an error and scored on an RBI hit from Janke, but that was all.

Cortright got the win, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing two hits and two walks before hitting the pitch count limit. He struck out 13.

Calumet Machine defeated Michigan Tech Employees Federal Credit Union 7-5 in Junior baseball Thursday at Dollar Bay.

Jack Hyrkas, Brad Erkkila and Rory Anderson had two hits apiece for the winners. Jake Anderson earned the win, going six innings, and Russ Bjorn got the save.

For MTEFCU, Brad Juntunen and Josh Becia notched two hits apiece.
