HANCOCK - A Celebration of Life of more than 99 years is to be held for Impi Mattson at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock on June 10, following the 10 a.m. worship service.
Impi was a longtime resident of Hancock, cooking and baking for family and friends well into her 90's.
She was the daughter of Nanni and Albin Ahonen of Paavola. Impi passed away Jan. 7, 2012, and will be remembered by many for her energetic and God loving spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who was very involved in building Gloria Dei; and her sons, Marvin of Paavola and Ed of Chassell.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Ken) Lassila of Chassell and Delores (Dee) of Palmer, Alaska; six grandchildren, Kevin and Glenda of Chassell, Cheryl of Florida, Debra, Thomas and Ken of Alaska and Robert of California; numerous great and great-great grandchildren. A niece, Sue Burcar of Marquette and a nephew, Wayne Mattson of Milwaukee whom Impi raised as teenagers when their parents passed away; many other nieces, nephews and cousins from around the world.
The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the staff of PortagePointe for the great care and loving support they gave to her.
