James Paul Galetto

MILFORD, Mich. - James Paul Galetto, a longtime resident of Milford, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2012, with his wife and daughters beside him. He was 78 years old.

He was born July 20, 1933, in Laurium, a son of James and Rose (nee Peteri), the youngest in a family of seven.

His father began the first bus line originally for the miners in the Calumet area and his family owned and operated The Cozy Garden.

After his graduation from Calumet High School in 1953, he attended Milwaukee School of Engineering for one year.

Jim then joined the Air Force as there was no work in the Upper Peninsula. After his discharge, he moved downstate and stayed for awhile with his sister, Mary, then his sister, Betty in Allen Park. In 1959, Jim was hired by General Motors as a test driver for Cadillac at the Proving Grounds in Milford. At the time of his retirement in 1999, he was a driver instructor.

Jim met Patricia Morisette in 1960 on a blind date set up by his nephew and her cousin, who were then dating. They were married on May 12, 1962, and made their home in Detroit. In 1966, he built his home in Milford and he, Pat and baby, Lisa, moved there in October 1966. He later built their cottage at Rabbit Bay.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; their daughters, Lisa (David) Perkins, Victoria (Barry) Ridenour, Audra (Kent) Shoemaker and Lorna (Thomas R., III) Brooks; grandchildren, Alysse, Wayne, Whitney and Zachary Perkins, Emily (Christopher) Frohriep, Tyler and Carly Ridenour, Rachel and Ian Shoemaker, Cole and Joshua Brooks; sisters, Joyce (Gordon) Trione, Betty (the late Adam) Katakowski and Grace (George) Langen; many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, Friday, June 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. Fr. Ron Anderson to officiate. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Mary's Parish.
