HANCOCK - Virginia B. Markham, 86, a Hancock resident, passed away Friday afternoon, June 15, 2012, at the Delaware House of PortagePointe in Hancock where she had been a resident for the past two years.
She was born on March 12, 1926, in Three Rivers, Mich., a daughter of the late Fredrick and Mildred (Carter) Kramb. Virginia graduated from Three Rivers High School and moved to the U.P. in 1950, then to Hancock in 1959.
After raising her family, Virginia worked at the Kings Inn in Houghton and then for Portage Health as Director of Housekeeping until her retirement.
Virginia was an avid gardener, reader and enjoyed Finlandia's Walk Fit program.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Robert, Lawrence and Richard Kramb; a sister, Louisa Brussard; a special friend, Kenneth Farquharson.
Surviving are two sons, Edward (Michelle Beauchamp) Markham of Chassell and Charles Markham of Atlantic Mine; two daughters, Susan (Gary) Smith of Reno, Nev. and Lucinda (Jon) Saterstad of Idaho Falls, Idaho; one sister, Mary Spurlock of Orange, Calif.; two grandsons, Lonnie (Jessica) Markham of Marquette and John Markham of Atlantic Mine; one granddaughter, Jennifer Garcia of Milwaukee, Ore.; two great-granddaughters, Rachel and Laura of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in the Plowe Funeral Home in Houghton with Rev. Gerald Southerton to officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
