MCHA adds two new members

June 20, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

DePERE, Wis. - Two-time defending national champion St. Norbert College has joined the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association, as has the College of St. Scholastica.

Tuesday's move, which becomes official for the 2013-14 season, expands the membership of the league (which includes the Finlandia men's program) to 10 teams.

The move was prompted by a decision from five schools in the University of Wisconsin system to move their programs out of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association into a league sponsored by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Green Knights are 55-0-2 in program history against the MCHA, which includes Adrian, the 2011 national runner-up and Milwaukee School of Engineering, which made its first NCAA Tournament appearance last season. St. Norbert has won the NCHA regular season title 13 times in the last 18 seasons and won the league postseason tournament 10 times.

Finlandia already competes against SNC and CSS in the NCHA women's league, which is expected to remain in existence.
