NEW name, new ‘Event’ure

Superior Equipment & Events is your complete source for rental, sales & service

The Daily Mining Gazette

HOUGHTON - Superior Equipment & Events, formerly Superior Rent-All & Sales, is kicking off the summer season with new, fun and healthy offerings like Street Strider elliptical bikes and Berg pedal carts for adults and children to see the Keweenaw in a unique way.

"Street Striders are elliptical bikes that move with you and are designed to get exercise with out the jarring impact on your joints," Donna Berryman said. "You can ride on the waterfront trail and it feels like you're running on air."

The Berg Pedal carts are available in three models Grand Tour, Clipper and Safari. The Grand Tour seats two adults and two children - perfect for parents and grandparents to tour and see some new sights. The Clipper seats two and the Safari one. It's best to rent two for double the fun.

Superior Equipment & Events is owned by Brian and Donna Berryman, who have been in business for 21 years. Recently, she said, they changed the name to better promote the event side of the business.

"We are known as 'Superior' and we will continue to offer equipment and party rentals, however our new name (Superior Equipment & Events, Rental, Sales & Service) will promote the equipment sales and event rental and sales areas of the business," she said. "There are vey few things we don't do here. We are your complete rental source."

Additional new items include inflatable ponies for "horse racing" that add fun to any family reunion or company picnic.

"They're fun whether you're a participant or spectator," Berryman said.

And, to help promote a special event or occasion, they now offer a portable, programmable LED sign.

"People are welcome to rent the sign for grand openings, a special birthday or any event you need high visibility," she said. "It's mounted on a trailer so we can bring it to your site."

Superior Equipment & Events is the area's complete rental source for any special event, like proms weddings, family reunions, fundraisers, Fourth of July par ties, rehearsal dinners or a holiday dinner.

"We have someone planning a party for December 20, 2012," Donna said. "I don't believe it's going to be the end of life on earth, but if it is, best spend it with the people you love."

When it comes to wedding planning, Donna considers herself part mother of the bride, part psychologist and many couples feel like her own children by the time they marry.

"Often it is a year-long preparation and I will talk with the bride and groom or their family monthly," she said. "Although we are in the wedding business, our advice is to 'plan for a marriage not just a wedding.'"

From backyard projects and backyard parties to construction equipment and corporate events, Superior Equipment & Events is your problem solver. Depending on the situation, Donna said they have a wide range of rental and retail items available. On the construction side: Bil-Jax scaffold, Werner ladders, Mk diamond saws and blades, Honda power equipment, Hilti tools and fasteners, and more.

On the event side: pig roaster, chocolate fountains, linens, dcor, games, bounce houses, fly guy attention grabbers, helium, balloons and more.

"We're more than just tents," she said. "We're 'Rent The Event!'"

Additionally, she said, "We do rental, sales and service and we service everything we sell."

And there are advantages of purchasing from Superior Equipment & Sales because they add value to each purchase.

Because they offer a wide variety of services, Donna said they rely heavily on their team of dedicated employees. David Destrampe, a graduate of MoTech, is a full-time mechanic and has been with the business from the start. He performs all service on the shop's equipment as well as equipment brought in for repair by customers.

"He has a huge following of contractors and homeowners that know he'll fix it right the first time," Donna said.

Sales manager, Mark Manderfield, who is a graduate of Acme Tool & Die, has been with the business since 2001.

"He enjoys giving people a chuckle," she said. "He keeps us all laughing and reminds us not to be too serious. People love to visit with Mark and we enjoy having him."

Manning the "hot seat" is Paula Lahti.

Donna said they call it the hot seat because on any given day, the phone conversation can go from a bride requesting information about tents, tables, chairs, dcor, centerpieces, and linens for her upcoming wedding to a contractor needing a mini excavator, to a homeowner who wants to buy a new Honda lawnmower.

"It's not an easy seat to be in because you have to know a huge amount of information while managing three phone lines ringing at once," she said
