The League of Women Voters of the Copper Country, in accordance with its local land use position, calls upon the Houghton County Board of Commissioners to vote in support of adoption of the new county master plan.
LWVCC believes a master plan is the vision for future development of the county. It lays out a studied overview of numerous aspects of the current status of the area, including public health and safety, population shifts and employment patterns to name a few, making it a valuable tool for persons and businesses examining the area. It is a tool for townships and municipalities addressing their own planning and development needs. Having a planning document can make it easier to obtain grant funding for projects or services that benefit county residents.
The county master plan has been in existence since 2006. Volunteer citizens, appointed to the planning commission, have worked extensively over the past year on the required 5 year update. LWVCC believes the process has enlisted a good deal of community input and reflects the best interests of the county. All area residents are encouraged to review the document on the county website and share their opinons with the commissioners prior to July 10.
