HOUGHTON - Playoffs are underway in local Little League, and both first-round games in the Portage Lake Little League's Minor (age 9-10) division went down to the wire.
Fourth-seeded Tervo Agency edged Kissel Chevrolet 9-8 in seven innings on Lars Massie's walk-off single scoring Isiah Little.
The game was tied at 5 through three innings before Kissel jumped ahead 7-5 in the fourth. Tervo responded with three fifth-inning runs, but Kissel tied the game with its last at-bat and held Tervo off the board to send the game to extras, where Little tripled to put the winning run in scoring position.
Little and Tanner Larson finished with two hits, while Tucker Tapani posted three hits for Kissel and Nick Laux added two.
Auto Pro edged Thrivent Financial 12-11 in six innings in the other first-round contest. Carson Chynoweth, Jackson Rocchi, Kade Farrell, Colton Salani, Shane Aho and Kyle Maki all registered a pair of hits apiece for the winners.
Auto Pro moves on to the semifinals Wednesday in South Range against Calumet Elks at 6 p.m.
In Keweenaw Little League girls' 13-16 softball, Calumet Lions defeated Copper Range Abstract and Title 18-5.
The Lions took control of a close game with four second-inning runs, including a bases-clearing double from Megan Yeo.
Copper Range tried to keep pace with two-RBI hits from Cheyenne Colombe and Carli Ongie, but Selena Stromer drove in three runs to maintain the Lions' lead and Copper Range pulled away in the sixth.
The Lions play Lakes Dairyland for the league title at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
