BERGLAND TOWNSHIP - Charles Matthew Evans, 73, of Marenisco, was killed between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Monday in a motorcycle traffic crash on M-28 near Sandy Beach Road in Bergland Township, the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post reported.
An investigation revealed Evans was traveling west on M-28 near Sandy Beach Road when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. Evans was thrown from the motorcycle, receiving head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
Evans was taken to Grand View Aspirus Hospital in Ironwood by Beacon Ambulance and then transferred to Wausau, Wis., by helicopter. He was pronounced dead at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post were assisted by the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department, Bergland Fire Department and Michigan State Police Calumet Post.
