Gordon Trione

LAURIUM - Gordon Trione, 89, a resident of Laurium, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.

He was born October 21, 1922, in the Old Memorial Hospital in Laurium, a son of the late Paul and Kate (Nigra) Trione.

On January 27, 1951, he married Joyce Galetto in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Calumet.

Gordon attended the local schools, graduating from Calumet High School with the Class of 1940. He then went on to attend Loyola University in Chicago and Marquette University in Milwaukee from 1940-43.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in North Africa and Italy. After his discharge in 1945, he was employed at Vertin Brothers & Co. in Calumet. His association with Vertin's continued until his retirement in 1989. He was the president of Vertin's Houghton until its closing. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the other Vertin Corporations.

He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet. He was also active in community affairs, serving on the following: C-L-K Board of Education from 1968-78, Calumet Public Hospital Board, Copper Country Workshop Board, C-L-K Religious Education Board and Laurium Senior Housing Board.

He was a life member of the Copper Country Chamber of Commerce, life member of BPOE 404 Elks in Calumet, Ira Penberthy Post 61 American Legion (1947-present), Christopher Columbus Society and the Skinny Club.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who is survived by his wife, Joyce; children: David (Jean) Trione of Wausau, Wis., Mary (Sam) Graci of Marquette, Michael (Beth) Trione of Mundelein, Ill., Nancy (Dan) Nakkula of DeForest, Wis. and Carol (Paul) Yahr of Brighton, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson, one sister, Genevieve (Dean) Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara as celebrant. Friends may call in the Erickson-Crowely Funeral Home in Calumet on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service to be held at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
