HANCOCK - Portage Lake overcame the loss of its 7-0 first-inning lead for an 11-7 win over Keweenaw in the first game of a best-of-three Interleague Championship Series Tuesday at Hancock Driving Park.

Maddie Johnson, Delaney Heinonen, Brooke Heinonen, Caitlyn Markham, Molly Bugni and Raili Therrian all recorded hits for Portage Lake in the first, but Ally Ronis, McKenzie LePage, Hannah Rautio and Megan Erkkila all had hits as Keweenaw climbed back into it with seven runs over the next five innings.

Portage Lake put the game away with four runs in the fifth for the final score.

Peyton Dube had a pair of hits for the winners, while Brooke Heinonen was the winning pitcher.

Game 2 of the series is Thursday at the Boneyard in Lake Linden.

Portage Lake took the first game of its Interleague Championship Series 6-0 against Keweenaw Little League in Major (age 11-12) softball Monday at Houghton High School.

Julia Nordstrom controlled the pitcher's circle, allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Megan Bugni singled twice and scored for the winners, while Milly Hoskins had a triple and Nordstrom doubled in her own cause. Madelyn Pierner kicked in a single and an RBI.

Four players had one single apiece for Keweenaw. Emily Erkkila struck out six batters in a losing pitching effort.

Game 2 in that series is tonight at Gipp Recreation Complex in Laurium.
