Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Portage Township at about 6:40 p.m. Monday. A 16-year-old Dollar Bay girl was making a left turn from U.S. Highway 41 into a private drive near Pilgrim Point when she pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by Brady Olson, 26, of Toivola, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office reports. Olson hit the vehicle broadside, sending the 16-year-old’s vehicle into a ditch. The Jaws of Life had to be used to extract a passenger, also a 16-year-old girl, from the vehicle, deputies said. The two 16-year-old females were taken to Portage Health by Mercy EMS and treated for their injuries. Their status was unknown Monday night. A passenger in Olson’s vehicle sought his own medical attention. The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident. Assisting at the scene were the Houghton Police Department, Michigan Technological University Public Safety and Police Services, Hurontown First Responders, Houghton Fire Department and Mercy EMS.
