ALSTON, Mich. - Rudolph J. "Rudy" Laux, 71, of Alston, passed away at his residence Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012.
He was born in Houghton March 19, 1941, the son of the late James and Edna (Sarazin) Laux. Rudy graduated from St. Ignatius Loyola School in Houghton where he served as an altar boy and safety officer.
Rudy served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonard Wood for two-and-one-half years.
On June 28, 1968, he married the love of his life, Doris "Jean" Cayanus at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Baraga.
Rudy was a self-employed carpenter and worked for Mike Mleko Construction. He then started his own construction, farming, sausage and meat cutting businesses, retiring in 1998.
Rudy enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Laux is survived by his loving wife, Jean; seven children: Michael (Shelly) Laux of Pekin, Ill., Jeannie "Tilly"(Vern) Smith of Stanwood, Mich., Tina (Jim) Parkila of Pelkie, Trudy (Roy) Duquette of Baraga, Rodney Laux of Alston, Tammy (Jason) Mantila of Pelkie and Teresa (Jason) Toogood of Rodney, Mich.; 16 grandchildren: Samantha, Sabrina and Alex Laux of Pelkie, Trevor and Chelsea Daly and Cooper Parkila of Pelkie, Josh and James Smith of Stanwood, Michael and Rian Turunen and Adam Duquette, Butter Laux, Craig and Johnathan "PeeWee" Mantila and Nora and Isaac Toogood; sister, Virginia (Bill) Bingham of Portage Township; brothers, Corbin (Helen) Laux and Jim (Patti) Laux, both of Alston; sister-in-law, Pat (Jack) Laux of Dollar Bay. His two birds. "Pete" and "PP" and his companion dog, "Bones" also survive.
His brother, Jack Laux; two nephews, Steve and JJ Laux; two companions, "Toby" and "Dutch" preceded him in death.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
