LAURIUM - Josephine (Putsy) Meneguzzo, 79, of Laurium, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, from congestive heart failure.
Josephine was born June 18, 1933, in Ahmeek to John and Anna (Mariana Calcio) Vairus.
Josephine attended the Ahmeek Grade School and graduated with the Class of 1948 from Calumet Public School in Calumet with high honors.
After graduating from high school, she worked at Baer's Market (Peterlin Bros.), then she went on to work in the credit department at Sears and was promoted to manager. After her husband purchased Quality SuperValu, she became the bookkeeper for the remainder of her life.
On Aug. 29, 1953, she married Louis Meneguzzo at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Calumet. Louis preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2012.
Josephine enjoyed crocheting doilies and spending time with her family. She really liked hearing about her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's day-to-day events. Her time spent with her husband was spent listening to polkas and watching him play his accordian. During the summer, Josephine especially enjoyed time on Lake Superior at "The Lake Camp" with her husband and family. She enjoyed teaching her family how to find agates on the shores of Lake Superior. She liked visiting with her sisters at The Lake Camp while they played board games and drank coffee.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph (Elma) Vairus, August (Violet) Vairus, Frank Vairus; sisters, Mary (Carl) Waananen, Theresa (Kay) Kopsi, Christine (Jacob) Stajniger, Anna (Robert) Lee and Dorothy (Fred) Maninga.
Josephine leaves behind her son, Louis (Sandra) Meneguzzo; sister, Lena Sundberg; grandchildren, Rebekah (Rick) McKay, Jason (Misty) Meneguzzo, Nick Meneguzzo and Greg (Robin) Meneguzzo; great-grandchildren, Naudia and Tessa Meneguzzo; plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Ryan Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet with Rev. Fr. Abraham Mupparathara officiating.
The Ryan Funeral Home in Calumet has been assisting the family.
