L'ANSE - L'Anse Area Schools' second-longest tenured superintendent Ray Pasquali has announced his retirement from the district, and the school board interviewed and named a replacement during a special meeting Wednesday night.
Pasquali's resignation will take effect June 30, 2013, and, after interviewing C.J. Sullivan Elementary School Principal Tom Sprague and L'Anse Junior/Senior High Principal Carrie Meyer, the board unanimously approved naming Meyer as the superintendent. Her superintendent responsibilities will begin July 1, 2013.
"Each interview lasted about an hour and a half. There was a motion on the floor to select one of the candidates and the board voted 7-0 to select Carrie Meyer, pending a contract," Pasquali said in a phone interview this morning.
"It's time. It's that time. I will be resigning from my superintendent's position after 14 years on the job on June 30, 2013," Pasquali said in a prepared retirement speech Wednesday. "Circumstances beyond my control, i.e., wear and tear, among a host of other things have led me to believe that, although reluctantly, it's time to go."
Pasquali's 14 years are second only to C.J. Sullivan's 26 years as superintendent.
Meyer could not be reached for comment as of press time, and more details on the superintendent transition will be provided in the coming days.
