EAGLE RIVER - After losing several members of the Keweenaw County Economic Development Committee due to resignations in July, the county's board of commissioners plan to reorganize the group.
At its regular meeting Wednesday evening, the board of commissioners said it plans to reorganize the EDC as it's unknown who is left to work on the committee. In July, three members resigned from the EDC, including the organization's chair. At the time, the EDC was asking for $5,000 to spend on a research and feasibility study for a water park in the county. Wednesday, the board opted to decline to give the EDC $5,000 for the study.
"I think what we should do, with all the problems that we've had with this thing, is restructure," said board member Don Piche.
He suggested getting the county board and EDC together and going back to a format similar to when the EDC was first started in the county.
"There's a little bit of confusion to who is there and who isn't right now," chair Ernest Mooney said.
In other news, the board:
declined to use the Honeywell company for energy upgrades.
adopted the Fair Housing resolution.
approved a payment for Robert E. Johnson Contracting Inc., the company that replaced the roof on the courthouse.
gave an update for anyone on the board interested in attending the U.P. Association of County Commissioners 2012 fall conference in Brimley.
gave support for Tri-Community Corrections to apply for continuing funds.
