IRON RIVER - Lake Linden-Hubbell drove home with the championship of the West Iron County Invitational for the third year in a row Saturday.
The Lakes won eight of 10 sets in the six-team round-robin event. Their 8-2 mark was one better than Ironwood, which went 7-3.
The Lakes took down the hosts, as well as Stephenson and Baraga and split sets with Ironwood and L'Anse.
Mandy Perrault led the Lakes with a total of 29 kills for the day. Brittni Kisul pitched in 18 and Ciara Larson 13.
Kisul and Larson also played major roles defensively, posting 27 and 20 digs, respectively, to lead the team.
Annelise Polkinghorn was the chief distributor, recording 30 assists. Sarah Audette added 17 and Jaimie Middleton 10. Brooke Corrigan added 10 aces and Kisul nine.
L'Anse started off the year with a third-place finish. The Purple Hornets split four of their five matches and swept Stephenson 2-0.
Valerie Rajala had 21 kills for L'Anse and pitched in five aces, five solo blocks and eight digs.
Amanda Dufek was L'Anse's defensive leader with 20 digs, while Rebecca Hulkonen helped on both ends, posting 10 kills and 10 digs.
Heather McCarthy was the top server, with six aces, and passed out 36 assists.
The Lakes and Purple Hornets meet again Thursday in L'Anse for the first dual match of the regular season.
