Truth plain to see

August 20, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

This letter is in reference to the comments made by Bruce Petersen, the current Portage Township Supervisor, in the July 11 Daily Mining Gazette article regarding the settlement of the lawsuit I filed against Mr. Petersen and five others members of the Portage Township Board.

Mr. Petersen said "that the $1,500 represents a small fraction of what Mike Wilmers was seeking." The truth is that it has never been about the money for me, but about integrity, obeying the law and open, fair government.

In reference to Mr.Petersen stating that "the three independent jurors who evaluated the case found no violation of the Open Meetings Act," I have this response. On July 8, 2011, I received a letter from Mr. Petersen informing me that I "will be removed" from my positions on the planning commission and board of appeals during the July 11 regular (Portage Township) board meeting. I believe the truth is plain to see here. What do you think?
