Water shut off in Portage Township

August 21, 2012
By KURT HAUGLIE - DMG writer (khauglie@mininggazette.com) , The Daily Mining Gazette

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP - A break in a waterline in Portage Township resulted in a loss of service today for customers along M-26.

Carol Little, Portage Township treasurer, said the break is in a line built in 1927 for the city of Hancock, which recently turned over ownership of the line to Portage Township.

Little said water service was turned off to business and residential customers from Manderfield Electric to Green Acres Road. She's uncertain of the number of customers affected or when service will be restored.

"We don't know how long it will take," she said.

The repair work is being done by Bill Siler Contracting, Little said.
