HOUGHTON - Sunday, Almor Penegor extended his successful run at Portage Lake Golf Course, winning the Verdie Cox men's club championship for a record 10th time.
Penegor defeated Brian Brewster 1-up to win the crown, his first since 2008. His previous championships came from 1984-87, 1990, 1992, 1995 and 2002.
He defeated Scott Mikesch, Blake Hietala and Ray Ricci on the way to the final. Brewster took down Darren Niemi, defending champion Dylan Peterson and Joe Strong to advance.
Pete Rouleau was the consolation titleist in the championship flight and the Saturday medalist, shooting a 4-under 68.
In the senior division, Don Morin became a two-time champion by defeating Tom Romps in the final. Morin also took down 2011 champ John Vaara and Chris Roy along the way, while Romps ousted John Britz and Bob Vial.
Bill Massey outdid Chuck Lucchesi for the super senior division. Massey also defeated Ralph Schaller and Ted Fredrickson, while Lucchesi eliminated Ken Sturos and Rick Yeo, the defending champ.
