HOUGHTON - School might be right around the corner, but kids can sneak in a little more excitement Friday at the Houghton Police Department's Family Fun Day.
The fourth annual event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Houghton City Center Friday.
There will be hot dogs courtesy of Vollwerth's, cotton candy and popcorn courtesy of Superior Events and beverages from McDonald's. Dial Help will be providing games and help with the event.

Jaden Turnquist, 2, of Houghton, held by Amanda Cooney of Houghton, pets McGruff the Crime Dog at the Houghton Police Department’s 2011 Family Fun Day while then-Houghton Fire Chief Jim Lightfoot looks on. This year’s event is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Houghton City Centre.
There will also be fingerprinting for kids, and McGruff the Crime Dog might make an appearance.
The event kicks off at 2 p.m., with the traditional donut hole eating contest.
"The reigning king is the chief of police, who says, 'No donuts shall go uneaten,'" said Houghton Police Lt. Nick Roberts.
The event has become a fun way to mark the end of summer, Roberts said.
"We like to provide it to the younger kids, just before the school year starts, to ring in the school year," he said.
