PAINESDALE - Kenneth Roy Liimatta, 77, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Coburntown on Oct. 24, 1934, a son of Edward and Laina Liimatta.
A graduate of Hancock High School, he lived in Painesdale for most of his life.
He worked for 10 years at the White Pine Mine as a diesel mechanic and spent several years as a self-employed carpenter. He also worked in the maintenance department at Twin Lakes State Park for 15 years until his retirement two years ago.
He was preceded in death by his son, Paul; his parents; three brothers, Warner, Donald and Arthur Liimatta; sister, Viola Liimatta Hackmann; and his infant twin sister, Edith May.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Helen of Painesdale; two sons, Michael of Kansas City, Mo., and Steven of Painesdale; grandson, Erik of Daegu, South Korea; granddaughter, Kirsten and great-granddaughter, Naomi of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Carol Smith of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; brother, James Liimatta of Mio, Mich.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
