LAKE LINDEN - Ciara Larson posted a match-high 12 kills and Mandy Perreault added 10 as Lake Linden-Hubbell won its Mountain Lakes Conference opener 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-9) over Baraga Tuesday.
Brittni Kisul chipped in a team-leading 12 digs, plus seven kills. Larson recorded 10 digs to complete her double-double, while Brooke Corrigan and Chelsea Koepel added seven apiece.
Annelise Polkinghorn led her team in both assists (26) and aces (four). Her six-point run in the first set, which included all four of her aces, gave the Lakes a commanding 23-15 lead.
The big run came from Sarah Audette's serve in set two. She had all three of her aces as the Lakes ran off 10 straight points. Audette also had seven assists.
Errors gave Baraga an opening in the third and prevented the Lakes from closing it out, but in the fourth, LL-H amassed 16 kills (five from Perreault, four from Larson) and three aces, including the doorslammer from Erin Gast on match point.
Rebecca Larson led Baraga with 12 digs. Winter Keefer added 10, plus a team-best three kills. Mackenzie Keefer and Brittany Nieskes recorded eight digs apiece.
The LL-H JVs won 2-0 and the Baraga freshmen 2-1.
LL-H is back in action Thursday at home against Hancock, while Baraga waits until Sept. 4 against Chassell.
Ironwood 3, Ontonagon 0
ONTONAGON - Ironwood took down the host Gladiators in three sets, 25-8, 25-16, 25-14, Tuesday.
Dani McCullough led the Red Devils with seven kills. Jess Mukavitz finished with 16 digs.
Bobbi Ross led the Gladiators with nine digs, while Jennifer Stewart had a team-best three aces.
