Perry to play annual Copper Harbor show

August 30, 2012

COPPER HARBOR - The name may have changed from the Fat Tire Festival to the Bell's Brewery Copper Harbor Trails Festival, but one tradition will remain the same: Houghton native Mojo Perry will be playing his annual show at Zik's Bar in Copper Harbor Sunday night.

"I've done it for 15 years," Perry said via phone interview. "I look forward to seeing everybody and ... it's something that's very important to me."

With a new album coming out at the end of September, Perry has been busy recording for the past few years, as this will be his fourth since the beginning of 2011. The Copper Harbor show actually works as a bit of a sounding board for Perry, as he usually debuts new material there.

"For years I've taken new material and bounced it off people up there before I release albums," Perry said. "With material I'm unsettled on, I always come off with a better direction after the (Copper Harbor show)."

Perry will be playing a mix of older songs, material from the new album and songs he plans to record later in the fall. Joining him for a time onstage will be local performer Billy Hodges of the band Reign.
