E-TC aces Bessemer

EWEN - Sam Robl had 12 aces, including seven in one set, as Ewen-Trout Creek took down Bessemer in its volleyball season opener, 3-1 (25-5, 25-12, 24-26, 25-12).

Robl also had 18 digs, while Rebekkah Driesenga led the team with 20.

Offensively, Zoey McGeshick and Brittany Suomumaki paced E-TC with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. The pair also combined for 14 aces, with McGeshick recording eight and Suomumaki six.

Chassell 3, Dollar Bay 0

DOLLAR BAY - The Panthers made it a two-win week, sweeping the Bays with help from eight kills apiece by Kaitlyn Hietala and Annie Ruohonen. Lexi Pyykkonen passed out 15 assists to direct the Chassell offense.

Jamie Dompier led Chassell with 10 digs.

Chassell plays Tuesday at Baraga.

L'Anse 3, Ontonagon 0

L'ANSE?- L'Anse swept Ontonagon 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 in non-league play Thursday.

Val Rajala led the Purple Hornets with five kills, while Brianna Mayo added four and both Becca Hulkonen and Mercie Funke had three.

Heather McCarthy posted six assists. She and Rajala had team highs in digs with six.
