SAULT STE. MARIE - The Michigan Tech women's tennis team started the season Friday with an 8-1 win over Aquinas College.
The Huskies swept singles play, led by Natalia Lebedeva's 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Kwang Suthijindawong (6-2, 6-1), Kira Eck (6-1, 6-2), Emilia Tenizbaeva (3-6, 1-0, retired), Chelsea Uganski (7-5, 6-1) and Dunja Imran Al-Sous (6-3, 6-0) all won their matches at Nos. 2-5 singles.
Eck and Suthijindawong combined for an 8-6 No. 1 doubles win, while Lebedeva and Al-Sous put away No. 2 doubles 8-2. Aquinas' only win came at No. 3 doubles.
The Huskies also defeated the host Lake Superior State Lakers 5-4, but individual results were not available as of press time.
Tech wraps up the season-opening tournament against Roberts Wesleyan at 2 p.m. today.
