EAGLE HARBOR - Carolyn Wood, 70, a resident of Eagle Harbor, died of adenosquamous carcinoma of the gall bladder on Aug. 28, 2012.
Carolyn, daughter of Wilbur Wardell Wood and Maggie Whaley Wood, was born in Cuthbert, Ga., Dec. 15, 1941.
She graduated from Andrew College in Cuthbert and Valdosta State University, a system of the University of Georgia, Valdosta, as well as Tulane University, New Orleans with a master's of social work.
Carolyn worked for the State Agriculture Department in Atlanta, Ga., and the American National Red Cross, stationed in Korea, Okinawa and Vietnam. She was also assigned to Camp Lejeune, N.C., Pensacola Naval Hospital in Florida, Martin Army Hospital in Columbus, Ga., and Red Cross Headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.
Upon graduation from Tulane, Carolyn was employed as director of social work at Murdoch Center (a center for the mentally challenged) in Butner, N.C. In addition, her work history included Tarant County Human Services in Fort Worth, Texas.
Upon retirement, Carolyn opened a gift shop with a friend for eight years specializing in handmade gifts and crafts. She resided in Cuthbert and Eagle Harbor.
Carolyn is survived by her special friend of 44 years, Dr. Nancy C. Sayner; her brother, Andy (Jean) Wood; her sister, Margaret (John) Hunt; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and close friends.
A graveside service will be held in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Eagle Harbor on Sept. 20, 2012, at 10 a.m. with Dr. Kathleen Johnson to officiate.
The Erickson Crowley Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
