FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - Five people were injured in a single-vehicle accident Sunday night in Franklin Township.

About 8 p.m., Sarah Kotajarvi of Laurium, 17, was driving north on South Cloverland Road when her vehicle lost control and left the roadway, the Houghton County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Kotajarvi and four passengers were taken by Mercy EMS to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Portage Health, where they were treated for minor injuries.

Deputies were assisted by Boston and Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Townships volunteer fire departments and Calumet Township fire and rescue department. Speed was believed to be a factor in the accident.
