Huuki loves raising taxes

September 20, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

I beg to differ with the gentleman who submitted a letter in praise of our state representative ("Our Leader in Lansing," Sept. 15). Matt Huuki is a representative who loves raising taxes on Michigan's citizens.

Thanks to Mr. Huuki, many seniors will be paying taxes on their pensions and 401(k)s for the first time when they file in 2013. Many will no longer qualify for the senior exemption. Many homeowners will no longer receive the Homestead Tax Credit.

Thanks to Matt Huuki, Michigan's poorest families will get an average of $307 less in their refund checks thanks to his vote to roll back the Earned Income Tax Credit. Thanks to Matt Huuki, families with children can no longer look forward to the $600-per-child deduction they used to enjoy. Donate to a homeless shelter? Good for you - but your contribution is no longer tax deductible. Thanks, Matt Huuki.

Thanks to Matt Huuki, Michigan citizens, young and old, can look forward to much smaller tax refund checks come 2013.

So the next time you see your state representative, be sure to thank him for being a leader who dared to raise taxes on working people, homeowners and senior citizens, to pay for a $1.8 billion state tax handout to his corporate buddies.

With visionary leaders like Matt Huuki, we can rest easy knowing that corporations are richer than ever at our expense.
