COMMERCE TWP., Mich. - Duane A. Lampinen, 55, a resident of Commerce Twp., Mich., and former Onnela resident, died unexpectedly at his home on Sept. 11, 2012.
He was born in Hancock, on March 16, 1957, a son of Earl J. and Barbara (Walstrom) Lampinen. He started his schooling at the Redridge School and in 1964, moved with his family to Commerce Twp. where he graduated from the Walled Lake Western High School.
Following graduation, he moved to Hawaii, the Big Island. While living in Hawaii, Duane was employed as a sales representative for a grocery chain. He loved swimming and running and ran nine Honolulu Marathon races. He resided in Hawaii for over 20 years before moving back to Commerce Twp., to make his home.
Duane was confirmed in the Apostolic faith and attended the Southfield Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his father, Earl Lampinen of Chassell; a brother-in-law, Dave (Kristi) Myllymaki of Battle Ground, Washington; two step-sisters, Diane (Ken) Rudy of St. John's Mich., Debbi (Tim) Battersby of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a step-brother, Dale (Judy) Niemi of Liminga; three nieces and one nephew, Rebecca, Brooke, Luke and Brinna Myllymaki all of Battle Ground, Washington; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Duane was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruth in 2005; his sister, Jody in 2006; and his mother, Barbara in 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, with Lay Minister Bernard Lampinen and Rev. Elmer Liimatta to officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Liminga Cemetery.
