EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The Michigan Tech cross country teams enjoyed a fast course and ideal conditions at the Blugold Invitational Friday in Eau Claire, Wis. The men finished sixth and the women were 12th of 17 teams.

"Today was a real competitive meet," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "There were some real competitive teams racing today. This was our first time on the course and that may have cost a few spots in the team standings. Many of our athletes ran personal bests today which was nice to see against such strong competition."

Bradon Kampstra led a trio of Huskies in the top 25 with a 12th place finish in the eight-kilometer race in a time of 25 minutes, 52 seconds. Kyle Hanson finished 24th in 26:07, and teammate Calvin Nitz was one spot back in 26:08.

The next four Tech runners finished less than 15 seconds apart. Jonathan Kilpela was 36th (26:26), Eric Parsell 38th (26:26), Nick Wimmer 42nd (26:32) and Karl Koivisto 52nd (26:41).

Amanda Halonen was the top finisher on the women's side with a 31st place finish in the six-kilometer race in 23:11. Tech had three other women finish in the top 100. Megan Smaby was 69th (24:30), Amber Peabody 87th (25:36) and Cassie Bobart 97th (25:55). Nichole Wehner completed the scoring for the Huskies, placing 100th (26:01).
