HOUGHTON - Rachel V. Marcheski, 96, a former resident of Heritage Manor, Houghton, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, 2012 at Houghton County Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident patient for the past two years.
She was born February 26, 1916, in Allouez, a daughter of the late Jack and Emilla (Sarya) Kristo. As a child, Rachel attended the Allouez School.
On April 11, 1934, she was united in marriage to Tulio Marcheski. The couple first resided in Ewen where they owned and operated a clothing store. They then resided in Detroit.
In retirement, they returned to the Copper Country to make their home in Tamarack City. Rachel also lived in Hancock and Heritage Manor in Houghton before becoming a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
Mrs. Marcheski was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hancock.
In Rachel's later years, she enjoyed trips to the casino with the seniors each week.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Tulio; a grandson, Garrett; her parents; her sisters, Gladis, Joyce and Lila; her brothers, Wilbur, Homer and Clarence.
Surviving are her son, Gary (Linda) Marcheski of Kingsley, Mich.; her grandchildren, Pamela Marcheski of Seattle and Kevin (Alice) Taylor of Monroevia, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Casey, Ashley, Cameron and Kaden; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Rachel will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock with Rev. Amy Terhune to officiate.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Winona.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
