Kings sweep Hornets

L'ANSE - Ellen Twardzik, Kristy Lasanen and Molly Loukus each recorded three aces apiece as Calumet swept L'Anse 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-13) in WestPAC volleyball Tuesday.

Twardzik led the Copper Kings with eight kills, while Lasanen had four and Loukus and Lexie Rowe three apiece. Kayleen Anderson dished out 25 assists.

For the Purple Hornets, Valerie Rajala had a match-high 11 kills, plus five aces and four digs. Heather McCarthy had 14 assists.

The league-leading Copper Kings are at West Iron County Thursday. L'Anse's next competition is a home triangular with Houghton and Baraga next Tuesday.

Watersmeet 3, Ontonagon 1

ONTONAGON - Brooke Turin pitched in five aces, seven kills and seven digs, but the Gladiators fell to the Nimrods in four sets, 27-25, 25-17, 16-25, 25-19.

Bobbi Ross and Chelsea Truscott contributed five kills apiece, while Jennifer Stewart had three aces and five blocks.

Chassell 3, West Iron County 1

CHASSELL - Annie Ruohonen contributed nine kills and Kaitlyn Hietala seven as the Panthers won in non-conference play, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21.

Ruohonen also had seven aces and four blocks, while Hietala kicked in a pair of aces and 10 digs. Lexi Pyykkonen had 21 assists.

Defensively, the Panthers got a game-high 16 digs from Jamie Dompier, while Kirsten Daavettila added 12.

Chassell returns to league play next Tuesday at Lake Linden-Hubbell.

Hancock 3,

Dollar Bay 0

HANCOCK - Allie Berryman and Katelyn Anderson posted seven kills apiece as the Bulldogs swept the Bays in non-league play.

Nicole Anderson handed out 28 assists and pitched in six aces. Jaycie Monticello had a team-best eight aces, while Jen Hannon was the Bulldog dig leader with 11.

Hancock hosts West Iron County next Tuesday in WestPAC play.
