L'ANSE - Jacob Colling of Houghton took a narrow decision from Calumet's Devin Berg at the L'Anse Invitational Thursday, while his Houghton teammates had a little more breathing room.
Colling's victory margin after finishing in 17 minutes, 15 seconds was four seconds over Berg. David Jaszczak of Houghton was 40 seconds off Colling's pace in third.
The Gremlins finished with 32 points to win the team championship, with help from top-10 finishes from Colin Campbell (sixth) and Dan Wood (10th).
Calumet finished with 48 points, as Josh Larson and Maxx Fredrickson came in seventh and eighth, respectively.
Hayden Heikkinen cracked the top 10 for Hancock with an 18:51.
The girls' side remained firmly in Calumet's grasp, with the Copper Kings taking four of the top five places and five of the top eight for a total of 20 points.
Tara Kiilunen was the individual winner with a 19:49, 22 seconds ahead of sister Leah. Jessica Gering of Ironwood was third, followed by Rachel Poyhonen and Abby Helppi for the Copper Kings. Evelyn Delong rounded out Calumet's team total with an eighth-place finish.
Houghton was second with 54 points, led by a sixth-place finish from Ashley Laux and a 10th from Jessica Schlaff.
Erin McKenzie in ninth paced Hancock.
The WestPAC teams will compete at West Iron County Monday.
