L’Anse approves four-way stop

L'ANSE -The L'Anse Village Council approved a new four-way stop during a brief regular meeting Monday night.

The new stop, which should be put up within the week, will be on the intersection of Hornet Way/Birch Street and Superior Street on the east side of town.

"Craig Kent, assistant fire chief, brought it to my attention and police chief (Mike) Laberge took a look at it, and he said we would probably benefit from having it there," Village Manager Bob LaFave said in a phone interview this morning. "People tend to travel a little fast there, so for safety's sake it seems like it'd be a good thing to do."

The only other agenda item besides paying the bills was a request for a handicapped parking spot in front of Baraga County's new downtown administration building.

Several council members took a look at the proposed spot before the meeting, but a motion was made for the village's street committee and street administrator Doug Mills to investigate further before making a final decision.

A construction update will be given at the next council meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at the village office.
