To the editor:
I am amazed to see two letters to the editor regarding limits to political contributions. I would hope that our citizens understand that we have an amazing opportunity in this country guaranteed by the First Amendment to speak freely. This includes political speech in the form of campaign contributions. There are already limits on what can be contributed and donors must be declared by candidates.
In a society that values choices and personal freedoms, why the concern over how people choose to spend their political speech dollars? I, for one, would rather the money be spent in campaign donations rather than the lobbying that goes on once a person is elected, often away from public scrutiny. But hey, what do I know? I supersize my fast food meals and drink Diet Coke. Oh wait, maybe someone in government wants to tell how to spend my money on food, too.
