LAKE LINDEN - Lake Linden-Hubbell made quick work of Ontonagon on Thursday and with it, ensured a successful defense of the Mountain Lakes Conference championship.
LL-H swept 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-8) to remain undefeated in league play with a game to go.
After Mandy Perreault's kill won the first point of the game, Ciara Larson served six points (including three aces) to make it 7-0 Lakes. Brittni Kisul later threw in four straight aces for a 23-7 lead before Kayla Goodell's kill finished it off.
The Lakes did more damage in set two, combining for eight aces despite just four kills. In the third, Morgan Codere went to the service line with her team down 2-0 and served the Lakes back into the lead, putting up two aces as LL-H scored the next 10 points. Goodell added a six-point run with two aces.
Erin Gast's back-row kill made it 24-8 and Codere served it out with an ace to decide the outcome.
Kisul finished with seven aces and Larson five. Sarah Audette finished with 12 assists, passing out three apiece to LL-H kill leaders Perreault, Goodell and Abby McConnon. Larson had a team-best seven digs.
Ewen-Trout Creek 2
EWEN - Chassell took a close one from Ewen-Trout Creek in MLC play, winning 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 15-10.
Zoey McGeshick and Sam Robl put up 33 and 30 digs in defeat, respectively. Molly Niemi had 22. McGeshick and Brittany Suomumaki had six kills apiece and Niemi five.
