To the editor:
The first annual Family Fun Day for children with autism and their families was a huge success. There are so many to thank. Our sponsors were Keweenaw Health Foundation, Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and the Copper Country Elks Lodge 404. Our host was Houghton Elementary School. The advertisers were Swick Home Services, The Daily Mining Gazette, WMPL Radio, WCCY Radio, WLUC-TV6 News and TV5 & 10.
The creative team was the Copper Country Intermediate School District, Copper Country Elks Lodge 404, Dave Rheault Enterprises, Linda Sanchez (face painting) and the Finlandia University men's hockey team. Thank you to the countless volunteers who worked at the event - what professionals.
Businesses who donated are: River Valley Bank, Tadych's Econo Foods, Jim's Foodmart, Wells Fargo Bank, Keweenaw Co-Op, OfficeMax, Walmart, Kukkakauppa the Flower Shop, Toni's Country Kitchen, Houghton Police Department, Ace Hardware, McCann Building Supply, Pats IGA and Kids Who Care.
Everyone at Family Fun Day witnessed "our dream come true." Yes, all the children participating in the games and activities, all the heartwarming stories told and watching the parents smiling and relaxing, all of our goals accomplished.
We have many more dreams for the children with autism and their families. We are working on the next events. Come join us, we need your input.
