HOUGHTON - The kitchen, the dining room, the tiles - virtually everything has been changed in the new Culver's opening soon in Houghton.
"The only thing that is still in place from the Perkins restaurant that was here previously is the four walls," said George Niemi, owner of the new Culver's.
The restaurant will open Oct. 22, and hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony eight days later.

The former Perkins restaurant in Houghton will reopen as a Culver’s Oct. 22 with a revamped kitchen and dining room.
The remodeling of the building started in July and is nearly complete, a timeline Niemi said is typical.
"We are buttoning things up right now," he said. "All of our equipment is in place. We're just tying some loose ends together."
Niemi said he's been looking at expanding into Houghton for a couple of years. The restaurant is just his latest connection to the area. In addition to other friends and family up here, his wife is a Houghton native and his son attended Michigan Technological University.
Culver's will hold an orientation session for its new employees today. In-restaurant training begins on Monday and continues for the rest of the week.
"We're excited and happy to be here, and we look forward to serving Houghton and the Keweenaw for a long time," Niemi said.
