CHICAGO, Ill. - Jerome M. Sachs, Ph.D., died peacefully at his home in Chicago on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012. He was 98.
He was the father of Jennifer Donovan of Houghton, Director of Public Relations at Michigan Technological University.
He was a lifelong resident of Chicago and the first president of Northeastern Illinois University. Dr. Sach's father, the late Leon Sachs, lived in Calumet in the early 20th century.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Other survivors include a son, Jonathan Sachs of Sacramento, Calif.; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Dr. Sachs donated his body to medical science through the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Nov. 5 in Chicago. Memorial donations may be made to the NEIU Presidential Scholars Program through the Northeastern Illinois University Foundation, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave., Chicago, IL 60625.
