Quilts aid the hungry

October 24, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

The Sandstone Piecemakers Quilt Group had its Quilt Show and Raffle drawing Sept. 15 at the Keweenaw Heritage Center in Calumet.

The first prize, a queen size hand-quilted Lone Star quilt was won by Michelle Kelley of Prosper, Texas and the second prize, a Lone Star wall hanging, was won by Scarlet Berry of Lake Linden.

The proceeds from the show and raffle will benefit the CLK Food Pantry. A check in the amount of $4,235 was presented to CLK Food Pantry Director Joe Picciano at the Oct. 13 meeting of the SSPQG.

We want to thank our friends, neighbors and families who supported the SSPQG with this community service project. A big thank you not only to everyone who bought tickets and gave donations but also to our local businesses, listed below, who were most generous in providing support in many different ways: Keweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne's, Zach Kukkonen at The Daily Mining Gazette, AmericInn, River Valley Bank, Roger Little, Richard Barclay, Diane Benchich, Dennish Kuban, Johnnie DeBernard, Country Village, Shea's, Connie's Kitchen, Toni's Country Kitchen, Two Harbors Soap - Maggie Dupuis, Dawn's Designs, Calumet Mercantile, Cafe Rosetta, Copper Country Associated Artists, Ziyad & Co., Calumet Floral, Copper World, Nagamoon, Ron Racine, Cost Cutters - Deb Pernaski, Bonnie Anderson, Dolly Luoma, Yarns & Threads, Calumet United Methodists Women and CLK Council of Churches.

Once again, our great community worked together for a good cause.
