Generosity blessed

October 24, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

The Sts. Martha and Mary Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul thanks everyone who contributed to the success of our third annual Friends of the Poor Walk held in conjunction with Main Street Calumet's Farmers' and Artisans' Market.

Our major local sponsors were Aalto Woodworking, Bill's Electrical, Bohemia Printing, Columbia Linen Service, Daughters of Italy, Erickson Crowley Funeral Home, Jim's Pizza - Calumet, Julio Contracting, Keweenaw Critters, Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, Knights of Columbus Torch Lake Council, Main Street Calumet, Mariner North and the Pines.

Thanks also to others who contributed their time, treasure and talents: The businesses that put up our posters, the media for publicizing, Kurt Hauglie of The Daily Mining Gazette and Eric Kane of WLUC-TV 6 for covering the event, the bakers, the walkers, the set-up people, those who manned the tables, those who contributed water, juice and coffee and of course, those who pledged a donation.

We also thank the Village of Calumet for allowing us to put up our route markers and conduct our walk through the downtown area. Although we started with only 15 walkers, our numbers through the day increased to a total of 38, which made this our most successful walk and enabled us to raise more than $5,700 to assist our friends in need in the CLK area.

In the name of those who need our help for this coming year, may God bless all of you for your generosity. We pray it will be returned to you tenfold.
