HOUGHTON - Defensive player of the year Clark Kangas and Special Teams Player of the Year Owen Kariniemi led four Calumet selections to the All-WestPAC football first team released this week.
Both players are seniors.
Anders Bjorn was also picked on the defensive line, while Kyle Larson was a first-teamer at offensive line.
The resurgent L'Anse Purple Hornets also had four first-teamers: senior Cody Goldsworthy at running back, junior offensive lineman Keith Denomie, junior receiver Jimmy Veker and senior linebacker Gaven Picciano.
Hancock nabbed three first-team selections: for senior running back Ross Michaels, senior offensive lineman Jordan LaTendresse and senior defensive back Shane Raasio.
Houghton's Dyson Bastian, a senior, was selected as a defensive lineman, while Ryan LaBerge was picked as the first-team punter.
University of Wisconsin-Madison recruit Austin Ramesh of Northland Pines was named the league's offensive player of the year, while his coach, first-year boss Eric Swanson, was coach of the year.
Six more Copper Kings were picked for the all-league second team: senior quarterback James Sturos, running back Tyler Roland, receiver Jake Pieti, offensive lineman Luke Eskola, linebacker Paul Torola and defensive back Bryce Johnson.
L'Anse had three additional second-team picks: defensive back Jonny Magaraggia, offensive lineman Brandon Scroggs and defensive lineman Alex Karcher.
Evan Huhta of Hancock also made the second team (as a defensive lineman), while Houghton had four second-teamers: Ben Collaer at running back, Sam Bethancourt at receiver, Alex Helman at linebacker and LaBerge at defensive back.
Local honorable mentions include: Brandon Kemppainen of L'Anse, Eli Anderson of Calumet, Sean Patchin of Hancock and Jacob Maise of Houghton.
