CHASSELL - Rose M. Hooper, 82, a former resident of Chassell passed away Thursday morning Oct. 25, 2012, at the Franklin House of PortagePointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient.
She was born on March 15, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Brennen) Hussey. As a child, Rose resided in London, England, and returned to the Chicago area as a teenager.
Rose was a graduate of Mundelein College and University of Michigan where she received degrees in Statistics and International Studies. She also attended the University of Okinawa.
On July 2, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert Hooper. The couple resided in the Ann Arbor area where Rose was employed with the University of Michigan. In 1986, she moved to make her home in Chassell and Rose became an administrative assistant to the President of Suomi/Finlandia University. On Feb. 15, 1998, Robert preceded her in death.
Rose was a member of St. Patrick's Church while she resided in Ann Arbor. Rose was active with many organizations throughout her life such as the Anti Defamation League (working for justice and peace), National Organization for Woman and different inter-denominational organizations. She also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors camping, working on academic research and caring for animals.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her son Neal Hooper, her daughter Jill Hooper and her parents.
Surviving are her children: Paul Hooper, Cecilia (John Rioux) Hooper, Jeanne (Mark Razook) Hooper, Gwen Hooper, Vincent (Debbie) Hooper & Judith Raymond; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, her brother, Michael (Patricia) Hussey and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service for Rose will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Houghton with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.
Friends may call on Sunday Oct. 28, 2012, from 2 p.m. until time of services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Houghton.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to W.I.T.H. HOUSING (a not-for-profit organization supporting and housing unwed mothers) at Fr. Patrick Jackson House, 1014 South Main St., Ann Arbor MI 48103, in memory of Rose M. Hooper.
