CALUMET - Alfred E. Moilanen, 93, a resident of Calumet and most recently of Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 27, 2012.
He was born Sept. 7, 1919 in Allouez, a son of the late Andrew and Hilda (Austin) Moilanen.
Alfred worked as a truck driver for Thornton Trucking in Hancock and Lindberg Trucking in Ishpeming.
He enjoyed watching and listening to Detroit Tigers baseball and was a big Calumet football fan. People may remember him for riding his bike to the store in Calumet.
On Oct. 26, 1946, he was married to Mayme Skufca and she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 2003.
Alfred was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Mayme; a sister; and 12 brothers.
He is survived by a son, Stanley (Virginia) Moilanen of Ishpeming; seven grandchildren whom he enjoyed spending time with and visiting with: Kris Moilanen of Escanaba, Kim (Jim) Holman of Henderson, Nev., Darrell Moilanen of Las Vegas, Nev., Kurt Millimaki of Ishpeming, Kevin (Maria) Millimaki of Ishpeming, Lisa ( Terry) Treece of Virginia and Keith (Tammy) Millimaki of Ishpeming; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Richard Eskola to officiate. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
