Life isn’t fair

November 1, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

Life isn't fair. Yet revolutionists from Lenin to Chavez have duped the masses with ephemeral promises of "fairness." Historically, citizens in Russia, Korea, and China have protested abhorrent conditions and overthrown governments, only to see new despots ensconced.

Barack Obama, enamored of his father's Marxist dreams and steeped in the caustic racist views of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has declared that America is also unjust. Enacting measures to "level the playing field" (Jan. 25, 2011 et al), Obama has refuted American exceptionalism, expanded government regulation, redistributed wealth, and socialized medicine. As a result, America now teeters on a precipice, with both liberty and prosperity eroding away.

Several local pundits favorably view government-centered socialism as an alternative to capitalism, despite socialism's inevitable "economic malfunction and moral cruelty" (Heilbronner, Encyclopedia of Economics). Because socialists snicker at the concept of God-given "unalienable rights," Fr. Andrew Kemberling says socialism will never be compatible with democracy. Speaking before the Colorado State Assembly (May 2), Kemberling warned, the "hallmark of socialism is the cessation of religious liberty."

Freedom to practice one's religion is guaranteed by the First Amendment. This liberty encompasses far more than Obama's confining "freedom of worship" (Aug. 10) notion, though. Pope Benedict says, "Charity is a part of (Christian) nature, an indispensable expression of (their) very being, an obligation of every Christian." Sadly, this obligatory religious duty was infringed upon when Catholic foster care and adoption services were dissembled (following their refusal to place children with same-sex or unmarried couples).

Obamacare generates further infringement of the First Amendment, "forcing religious people and groups to provide insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drugs, surgical abortion, sterilization, and birth control"(U.S. Catholic bishops). "To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical." (Thomas Jefferson)

Obviously, life isn't "fair" for the 23 million unemployed/underemployed now living in reduced circumstances. Don't assume, however, another government stimulus or industry takeover will provide jobs for them. That failed strategy wasted billions of taxpayer dollars, for example: Solyndra, Fisker, A123, Ener1, Abound Solar, ECOtality, Bright Source (and) Beacon Power. President Obama claims there's a helpful new jobs plan. So, considering those unfortunate millions, why is he hesitant to utilize it?

Vote Nov. 6 against the socialist experiment that has engendered this economic and moral decline. It's vitally important that a godly, competent businessman is elected. We desperately need to restore America's principles and prosperity.
